Bigelow Creek
Where exactly is Bigelow Creek? Is it even a real place? Yes it is! I grew up in the Midwest in the days when our parents let us loose in the neighborhood all day. I used to play in this very creek with my sister and friends. We would search for little creatures, watch for the waterfall (which was only 6 inches high!) and hope we didn’t slip on the moss and fall in. There was always something new to find or experience. It was always fun in the winter time to see if it had frozen over enough to “ice skate”. The spring brought green grass, flowers and new creatures. In the summer, it was a great place to cool off. The fall brought beautiful colors with all the surrounding trees. What cherished memories lay in that creek!
I thought it appropriate to use my childhood memories to pursue a dream of to build our family through adoption.
Our Story
I have dreamed of being a mother since I was a little girl playing with my dolls. It never occurred to me that I wouldn’t one day get married and have babies. Well, I waited for the perfect man. He came along after most of my friends got married. He was worth the wait! We knew we wanted children, but wanted to settle into marriage first.
We made a cross country move and my husband started school … more waiting. Finally life seemed as settled as it would be and we decided to start our family. We waited and waited … no announcements to make. We went to the doctor and quickly learned that a pregnancy would not likely happen. We then began the journey that has led us to this endeavor.
We began the process to adopt our first child. What an awesome experience! We were given the most precious gift in our son, Aidan. Words cannot describe what a blessing infertility turned out to be! The road was bumpy and quite costly, but what a gracious God we serve! He has provided for our every need and many additional blessings!
I am blessed to be a stay at home mom. That also means no double income and no extra cash for big pursuits like adoption. We have made a firm commitment in our family for me to remain at home with our children. Watching Aidan interact with other children has confirmed to us that he needs a sibling ~ it is also a “want” that we have for him (and us!).
Since there isn’t money in the budget for adoption and our desire is for me to remain at home, I needed a way to make money for our adoption without returning to the workforce and putting Aidan in day care … we are very far from our family.
Hence, Bigelow Creek Candles was born …
